[HAWAI'I] - UPDATE 6/17/25: West Hawai’i Island Parks to Close Early on 4th of July Holiday. To prevent unauthorized use of fireworks on the 4th of July, and the potential for wildfire, three west side parks will close early on that day. Park visitors must exit these dry, leeward parks by 5pm, when the gates will be locked. The parks affected include Hāpuna Beach State Recreation Area, including Waialea Beach section, Kīholo State Park Reserve, and Kekaha Kai State Park (both the Mahaiʻula and Maniniʻōwali sections). The public is reminded that fireworks are prohibited at all times, in all Hawaiʻi State Parks.

[MOLOKA’I] - UPDATE 6/16/25: Pala’au State Park Pavilion: Due to continued renovation work, the pavilion closure has been extended from June 1 to July 31. The Pala’au Camping Area has been CLOSED from June 1 to July 31, 2025.

[MAUI] UPDATED 6/4/25 – Kaumahina State Wayside - CLOSED June 12 to June 22 for tree removal project.

[MAUI] UPDATED 5/23/25 – Mākena State Park - State Parks is issuing an Invitation for Bids (“IFB”) to qualified parties interested in a Mobile Food Truck Concession Agreement to operate a Mobile Food Truck (“MFT”) Concession at Mākena State Park. [OʻAHU] UPDATED 5/21/25 – Diamond Head State Monument (DHSM): Updated June Operating Hours - The rockfall mitigation project began January 6, 2025 and will run until September 5, 2025 or upon completion of the construction project at the Kahala Tunnel. Please check the Diamond Head State Monument website for updated park operation hours during this time.

[KAUAʻI] - UPDATE 3/21/25: Pā‘ula‘ula State Historic Site - Due to construction improvements, the park closure will begin starting March 24 until further notice.
Hawaiʻi State Park Rules
Park rules are designed to help you and others have an enjoyable visit while protecting Hawaiʻi’s unique and fragile cultural and natural resources. Always observe and follow the regulations on posted signs in the parks. In addition, you can help and increase the enjoyment of others by observing the following rules.
Report suspected law and park rule violations to enforcement officers. On all islands, call 643-DLNR (643-3567), no area code required. For emergencies, dial 911.
| NO DRONES | The use, launching or landing of drones or other types of aircraft is prohibited. |
| NO SMOKING | Smoking, including E-cigarettes, and the use of tobacco products is prohibited. |
| ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES | The use or possession of alcoholic beverages is prohibited. |
| BEGGING AND SOLICITING | Begging and soliciting are prohibited, except pursuant to Section 13-7, HAR. |
| VESSELS | Vessels or any similar buoyant devices are prohibited where posted. |
| FIRES | Where not prohibited, build fires in the fireplaces and grills provided. Portable stoves or warming devices may be used in designated camping and picnicking areas unless otherwise prohibited. Dump live coals only in designated ash pits or receptacles. |
| GENERATORS | Operation or use of any portable electric generator is prohibited, except with a special use permit. |
| PETS | Pets and other animals are prohibited wherever posted, and are not allowed in restaurants, pavilions, swimming areas, campgrounds, lodges, or on beaches. Where permitted, pets are to be crated, caged, on a 6-foot or shorter leash or otherwise under physical restrictive control at all times. Horses prohibited unless otherwise posted. Please clean up after your pet. |
| NUDITY | Nudity is prohibited. |
| NOISE | Do not operate any audio device, television, or musical instrument in such a manner and at such times so as to create excessive noise or nuisance. |
| PLANTS | Leave all plant life undisturbed. Where permitted, reasonable quantities of fruits and seeds may be gathered for personal use. |
| REPORT OF INJURY OR DAMAGE | All incidents resulting in personal injury or death, or property damage must be reported as soon as possible to the district office, and other appropriate agencies. |
| SKATING AND SKATEBOARDS | Skating and skateboards are prohibited where posted. |
| METAL DETECTING DEVICES | Metal detecting devices are allowed on sand beaches only. |
| VEHICLES | Drive and park motor vehicles only on designated roads and parking areas provided for such usage. |
| WASTE DISPOSAL | Place all waste in trash cans and pack out trash from wilderness parks. |
| NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES | Leave all plants, geological, historical, and archaeological features undisturbed. |
| WILDLIFE | Leave the wildlife and their habitat undisturbed except where hunting and fishing is permitted subject to all applicable laws and regulations. |
| LOST AND FOUND ARTICLES | Lost and found articles are to be deposited by the finder at the nearest police station, or at the park visitor facility. |
| SUSPECTED VIOLATIONS | Report suspected law and park rule violations to enforcement officers. On all islands, call 643-DLNR (643-3567), no area code required. For emergencies, dial 911. |
